Exclusive, small batch wine event announced for McLaren Vale
Wine lovers are invited to sample more than 50 premium wines from 15 different producers at The Victory Hotel in Sellicks Beach on Sunday, October 19.
The wines, including many ‘alternative’ varieties, are all made by members of Vale Cru – a collective of McLaren Vale winemakers who produce limited quantities of handcrafted wines, many made with minimal intervention and focused on varietal integrity.
The event will also feature live music from Courtney Robb, guest speakers, cocktail food and will be attended by special guest James Halliday.
Current Vale Cru chairman Andrew Wood, who is also winemaker and owner of Waywood Wines, said the annual event has become a tradition among the group’s loyal following but it’s also a unique opportunity to introduce new brands to consumers.
“Among the collective there are well-established brands such as Samuel’s Gorge and Ulithorne, newcomers like Ministry of Clouds and Bekkers, plus award winners Vigna Bottin and Jimmy Watson recipient Scott Heidrich from Rusty Mutt,” Andrew said.
“We have winemakers who have moved to McLaren Vale from all around the world, many also specialising in viticultural practices, and all very sustainability focused.
Renowned wine writer and previous event attendee Nick Stock will also be a returning guest.
“There’s no better living example of all that’s right about McLaren Vale than the Vale Cru,” Nick said.
“They’re an eclectic bunch, all making their own version of great McLaren Vale wine…. See you at the Victory on the 19th!”
